No,the machine only have router capabilities.

Yes the machine is a Tri Band router  and have 2 5G connection which allow it to handle many devices at the same time.Clients have reported to use 20 machines at the same time without any problem.

Can the  GT-AC5300 be used without an ISP ?

Yes it can be used for a LAN network, but it is not able to connect to the internet without an ISP.

Is it possible to use an RT-AC87U, with the GT-ACac5300 to make an ai mesh?

Compatible hardware for the ai mesh network are available at the ASUS website, and when new firmware are compatible  with the router the  list is updated consequently.

Is the router fast enough  to use it with a VPN?
